| Bath Bomb Ingredients
Here we offer the basic ingredients to get you started with making your bath bombs.
Over the years we have trialled many different varieties of ingredients and we are confident that you will obtain excellent results with these products.
Sodium Bicarbonate and Citric Acid form the core materials and can be used at a ratio of 5:1, 3:1 or to your own formulation. The Sodium Bicarbonate is a powder format, whilst the Citric Acid is a very fine grain to give a superior finish. We have recently introduced Citric Acid ni a powder form which is aimed at the more experienced bath bomb manufacturer as it is different to work with than the granular form.
These two ingredients need a binding agent to hold them together and personal taste is usually involved as to whether you use Sweet Almond Oil, other carrier oils, essential oils or Witch Hazel. The use of essential or fragrance oils will also give a scent to your product.
It is quite difficult to colour bath bombs to a deep colour but when you do add colour, we would recommend a dye colourant rather than a pigment colourant. While the colour will look pale on a finished bath bomb, as soon as it hits the water it will turn a very vivid colour.
Looking for added bubbles? then consider the use of SLS or SLSA. Either will produce bubbles with SLSA considered to be the milder of the two.
Extra luxury can be obtained by adding butters in the form of Shea, Mango or Cocoa. Very small amounts of butter are needed to be added otherwise you will end up with a slippery, greasy bath.
Finally how about some glitter or dried flowers? Less is more when considering these as being covered in glitter - either the person or the bath - is not too desirable an effect! While rose petals can look glorious when floating in the bath, they can be very difficult to get down the plug hole and could block the drain.
